Hello and welcome! We're going to start with a bit of an introductory question to PAR:
What do you already know?
How confident are you in applying this knowledge to various environments (e.g. research practice, reading other research, being a participant in research)?
Alrighty! I've posted our second thread of discussion over on the main forum - get stuck in with some reflections!
Sorry, I am confused. Is all the interaction in this chat, is there an actual workshop going on somewhere?
I really enjoyed workshop one, especially the time taken by both Josephine and Clare to talk about standpoint, and the contemporary examples of uses of PAR re: COVID-19. Really excellent content and some new readings to follow up.
I've secured facilitated a few PAR projects (using PhotoVoice, workshops and participatory theatre, and other creative methods) in the past when I worked in the third sector. I was also a participant in a collaborative action research (CAR - similar to PAR!) project between a range of community-led third sector projects aiming to address hate crime and prejudice.
I really enjoyed Workshop 1 - what struck me was how I really strive to do ethical research to tackle inequalities towards social justice and I feel that PAR offers a great framework for that. I am currently leading a PhotoVoice project in Ethiopia but I didn't realise that it falls under the umbrella of PAR. Really looking forward to learning more, thank you!
Great i'll get the ball rolling - I am somewhat familiar with PAR so at the start of this workshop I was hoping for a refresher on the fundamental principles of PAR. Hearing Dr Ocloo and Dr Coultas talk is a real reminder for me of why this is such an important research methodology.😀
