PAR has outputs beyond the typical academic publication, and these outputs are often directed by the group rather than the researcher alone.
How you planned in space and time to get their ideas for the development of outputs as well as research practices? What budget have you set aside for outputs that are non-academic, and what are the budget flexibilities? What are the short-, mid-, and longer-term outputs of your project? How have you made space for participants to take ownership of the practice and the outputs in legacy plans for the project?
Thanks folks! We're closing the thread now as we're wrapping up the moderation - please feel free to continue elsewhere!
i was pleased to see that the YAPG was acknowledged as co-authors in one of more recent publications!
The fourth prompt for the week is up now; available through the main page, and also here: https://www.zinevoices.com/forum/forum/week-5-prompts-4-par-outside-of-social-sciences
That sounds absolutely fascinating @Chella Quint- I imagine that it would really appeal to participants to be contributing to something with a practical output and I am so intrigued by the fiction side of things too. I have often thought that some aspects of my research would be nice if someone adapted them into a children's book about developing fostering relationships but it's something I'd need to learn a bit about first as it's way out of my comfort zone. You raise a good point about the IP side of things - not my area of knowledge but curious to hear what you find.
In my current research I'm creating a design fiction as a scenario to spark research prompts, which may inspire a book or game eventually. I plan to be very open with my research participants that our co-created work will most likely result in a co-authored activity toolkit of resources they can use and that will be available for them and for health professionals, but that I will likely publish the fiction as an additional output myself in the form of a book or a game (which may well have didactic properties that will benefit them, and I can offer them all free access). I'm getting advice on how to navigate this from an IP point of view.
I think here budget is such a key issue - having outputs that aren't just academic papers is really important to me but the way my projects are funded tends not to have any specific budget for this. However, when there HAVE been times when budget allows it has been great to work collaboratively with people with relevant lived-experience e.g. artists to create something really special. I also found this to be a test of the validity of my work in terms of its resonance with people outside of the project. I'd love to do this on a larger scale in the future.
@annetterob2019 - we'd love to hear a bit about how this came out in Windrush Strikes Back! There's such a range of outputs, it'd be really exciting to hear more.
